The timber trade operates in conditions that do not forgive mistakes: miscalculated volumes, shipments with no traceability and reports that took days to produce. Romaneo was built to solve that operational chaos — a system designed to be used in the field, from the sawmill to the office, with automatic board-foot calculation and full traceability by customer and destination.
The tallying process was manual: sheets of paper, calculators and Excel files nobody updated at the same pace. Board-foot calculation errors meant direct financial losses. They needed a system any operator could use quickly, in the field, without a stable connection, that produced reports ready to share with customers instantly.
Every feature was designed for the sawmill's real pace — fast, with no margin for error, and usable by anyone on the team without extensive training.
Each tally records customer, destination, date and the full bundle breakdown. The interface is optimised for fast data entry — made for someone working in the sawmill yard, not at an office keyboard.
History is ordered chronologically and filterable by any field — customer, destination or timber species.
The operator enters the number of pieces and width in inches — the system calculates board feet instantly. A large touch keypad allows measurements to be selected quickly even wearing work gloves.
It completely removes the human error from calculations previously done on a calculator or from memory.
With one tap the system produces the tally report in PDF or Excel and shares it directly over WhatsApp or email. The customer has the paperwork before the truck reaches its destination.
Reports include running totals and per-bundle detail, and can be filtered by customer, destination or date range.
The system installs as an app on any device and works offline. Data syncs with Firebase when a connection is available — without losing a single record made in the field.
Designing for a sawmill is a different challenge from any office app. Screens are read in direct sunlight, fingers are in gloves, conditions change. Every design decision was made with that context in mind.
The measurement entry buttons are large, touch-friendly and grouped by how often they are used. Recording a complete bundle takes under 10 seconds — without opening a single extra menu.
The key figures — total tallies, pieces and board feet — are visible from the main screen. A glance is enough to understand where the day stands.
The system's colours — forest greens, timber oranges and bark browns — are not arbitrary. They connect the user visually with the material they work with and make the interface feel native to the trade.
Romaneo's typography prioritises legibility in adverse conditions — direct sunlight, small screens, quick glances. Every size was calibrated so an operator can read effortlessly while working.

The primary typeface the system renders in. When it is unavailable, the browser falls back to system-ui — the device's native font. Emoji adapt automatically by platform: Apple Color Emoji on iOS and macOS, Segoe UI Emoji and Segoe UI Symbol on Windows, and Noto Color Emoji on Android and Linux.
Romaneo's colours are drawn straight from the world of timber — the green of the forest, the orange of the sawmill, the brown of bark and the cream of wood's interior. A palette that speaks the trade's own language.
Forest green. The brand's primary colour. It connects with timber's natural origin.
Timber orange. Accent and CTA. The colour of a sawmill in full production.
Bark brown. The mid tone bringing depth and warmth to the system.
Light green. Positive states, confirmations and rising metrics.
Interior cream. The light mode background. It evokes freshly cut wood inside.
Near black. The dark mode background. Maximum contrast for reading outdoors.
The system is organised in three layers: operational recording in the field, management and dashboard in the office, and reporting for customers and directors. Each layer has its own flow and level of detail.
Romaneo turned an error-prone manual process into a precise, fast digital system usable from day one. The timber trade did not need complex technology — it needed technology that understood its reality. That is exactly what we built.
