Studio

Five of us, a drawing table and the 5 pm light

A ground-floor studio on Calle San Basilio, founded in 2009 by Inés Carvajal and Tomás Brandt. We design houses, courtyards and renovations, most of them within an hour of Córdoba.

Three rules we keep

  1. 01

    The plot first

We don’t draw a room until we know where the shadows of the neighbours fall on both solstices.

  2. 02

    Thick walls, deep windows

Mass keeps the heat of the day out until night. A 30 cm reveal shades the glass in June and lets the sun in in December.

  3. 03

    Local hands

Lime, brick, iron and timber from builders within an hour of the site, who can come back to fix what they built.

Why Córdoba

Few cities show so clearly what the sun does to a house. The old town is a lesson in shade: narrow streets, whitewash, courtyards with awnings and water. We learn from it every day, and we try not to copy it.

Ask for the sun study of your plot

Tell us where it is. In seven days you’ll have the shadows on 21 June and 21 December and the hours of sun on each façade. €450, deducted if we do the project.
