Frequently asked questions

What happens to the letter ñ?

You decide: by default we keep it, because in Spanish “año” and “ano” are not the same thing. If your system doesn't accept the ñ, uncheck the box and it will become n.

Does it also remove umlauts and other marks?

Yes. It strips any diacritic: accents, umlauts (ü), and grave or circumflex accents from other languages (è, ê, ã, ç becomes c, and so on).

What is removing accents useful for?

For creating compatible filenames and URLs, importing data into systems that don't accept special characters, generating codes or usernames, and avoiding encoding errors.
